Navajo Trails staff are selected from all parts of the United States and other countries.  All staff are trained in First Aid and CPR. Life Saving Certifications are required for all counselors supervising water activities. Many of the staff members are former participants at Navajo Trails, and have many years of experience in their activity specialty.

Trip leaders are either graduate students or have graduated from college and are interested in youth development. They are well trained in their field and are qualified to teach kids the skills they need to safely participate in their specific trip activities.  Trip leaders have more experience and certifications than our general support staff.

Only those staff who fit the camps goals and philosophy are selected. Staff are not only required to have excellent interpersonal skills with youth, but be able to help them achieve their goals. The weekly adventure programs are organized into groups of 6 to 9 youth, and 2 to 3 staff counselors.

I believe today's youth seeks to be challenged, not coddled. To be inspired, not criticized. To be taught, not entertained. To do, not watch only. -- Don Sampson (Co-Founder)
